Dungeness

Comfortable overnight accomodation in New Romney, Kent

Martinfield Manor is the perfect place to stay for exploring Dungeness

Dungeness has long been a favourite of photographers and artists alike, drawn to its beautiful, rather desolate landscape and the clear light. In recent years it has become more widely known as the former home of film director Derek Jarman, where you can still see his bungalow and famous garden.

Dungeness is also the final station on the Romney Hythe and Dymchurch light railway - the worlds smallest public steam line, which runs from here all the way to Hythe, about 15 miles away.

Fishing boats still work from this stretch of coast, many families earning their living from the sea, as generations have before them.

You can round off your visit with a fish and chip supper at either the Brittannia Inn, which is actually on the estate, or just outside the boundaries is the Pilot Inn, both of which give an excellent welcome and food to match.

Martinfield Manor Bed and Breakfast is ideally located for those wishing to explore this unusual landscape - being just a ten minute drive away from Dungeness, and close to local facilities.
